Industrial Internet of Things

Whether in industry, urban planning or in the private sphere: The Internet of Things makes our lives easier.

Whether in industry, urban planning or in the private sphere: The Internet of Things makes our lives easier. Objects are being turned into smart objects that communicate with each other and can perform intelligent actions. For example, the fully automatic machine at home brews our coffee on demand, and city traffic lights automatically switch from red to green depending on the traffic situation.

The digitalization of industrial production saves companies time and money. In smart factories, machines are networked via IoT sensors and microcontrollers. With predictive maintenance, it is possible to forecast malfunctions and minimize or avoid downtime. Read here about our expertise in the Internet of Things - our experts are on hand to provide you with competent advice on your concerns.

Use cases our customers deal with:

  • Pay-per-X business models of plants and machine manufacturers that require interoperable data worlds for advanced analytics and billing
  • Optimized plant utilization through temporary leasing of excess capacity and monitoring & billing of the business through data collection of all production steps
  • Flexibilization of plant & machine maintenance through interoperable data evaluation of maintenance states and minimization of downtimes in overall production
  • Optimization of manufacturing processes through interoperable data between heterogeneous machines in a line, so that the coordination of the individual stations in the shop floor can be made more flexible
  • Predictive analysis of real-time data in series production to reduce the costs of downstream quality assurance
  • Flexible adaptation of production processes through online integration of business planning applications with store floor data
  • Real-time integration of hybrid data worlds in manufacturing execution systems and production-accompanying quality assurance for safeguarding and controlling production processes

Data integration – the basis for digitization and IoT

One of the most striking features of ongoing digitization is the rapid increase in data. A key driver of this development is the Internet of Things. Data integration is a prerequisite for bringing order to information and using it profitably.

Often, companies have a wealth of data but don't quite know how to make use of it. Information from a multitude of different systems is available in different formats - the task is to cast this information into a uniform information system using the means of data integration and thus ensure its consistency. This process involves collecting the data, converting it into a uniform format and storing it, for example in a data warehouse or data lake. Now they are available for further analyses and can be used for business intelligence, prescriptive analytics or predictive analytics, among other things.

Data integration is an essential factor for the Industrial Internet of Things, IIoT for short, in the course of which machines, systems and software are networked and communicate with each other. Based on the integrated data obtained, it is possible to make intelligent decisions and automate and accelerate processes. The elimination of time-consuming data maintenance and consolidation saves time and money.

Horizontal & vertical integration

Basically, a distinction is made between two forms of data integration. Horizontal integration refers to the integration of data from systems or applications at one hierarchical level, for example sensor data from different machines. Vertical integration in turn describes the integration of data from different hierarchical levels, for example the strategic and operational levels.

Internet of Things (IoT) gateways – between physical and digital reality

Internet of Things (IoT)-Gateways

IoT gateways are essential for networking different IoT systems with each other – be it machines, plants or other devices. Sensor data is aggregated and passed on to higher-level systems for further processing. In a sense, they represent the gateway between physical and digital reality.

Information is extracted from the data. With the help of analytics and artificial intelligence, coupled with the wealth of experience of your production experts, it is possible to generate knowledge that supports the optimization of your processes in near real time.

Open Integration Hub Plus – Industrial interoperability for medium-sized businesses

X-INTEGRATE is a partner in the Open Integration Hub Plus (OIHplus) project. The project aims to develop an open digitalization platform for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) for production monitoring and optimization. The interoperability of industrial data - especially of machines and process data - is the focus of OIHplus.

ZuPro2Flex – Flexibility with pay-per-X business models

The German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) has launched the project "Condition Assessment and Process Assistance for Useful Life-Based Business Models to Increase Flexibility in Production" (ZuPro2Flex for short). The aim is to provide machine builders with a deployment method for digitization solutions. X-INTEGRATE is on board as a project partner and supports in the research on pay-per-X business models.

State of Fast Feedback in Data Science Projects

DSML projects can be quite different from the software projects: a lot of R&D in a rapidly evolving landscape, working with data, distributions and probabilities instead of code. However, there is one thing in common: iterative development process matters a lot.
