The server based domino.connector was developed on terms of web services and synchronizes data in accordance with the internal IBM Notes system and the third-party application. It’s the same system that for example salesforce.com is using.

User of this online CRM solution can assign processes and information directly from IBM Notes to customer profiles at salesforce.com. Jobs and appointments can be synchronized comfortably without changing to a different application. Emails generated at salesforce.com get forwarded automatically to IBM Notes after passing through a thorough compliance process. Domino.connector enables an almost complete integration of the messaging functionality into salesforce.com.

The complete email stock stays at all times within the secure intranet. The forwarding of information takes place in your email system IBM Notes corresponding your company guidelines.

The domino.connector’s mode of operation

The domino.connector works server based. Your IBM Notes client doesn’t have to be adjusted. The same accounts for your mail template and mail server. The domino.connector is designed to be installed through interfaces in your system’s infrastructure. Domino.connector operates on the basis of web services that are provided by it on the Domino website.

We recommend the use of a web-enabling IBM Domino server for the communication with the external cloud application. An IBM Notes in-built protocol can be used to connect with your internal IBM Notes servers. No email databases need to be placed on the internet, but stays secure in your own Intranet.

Domino.connector is your interface for messaging infrastructure and the external end system. The processing on IBM Notes side is done server based due to Lotus script commands.

To communicate with the external end system many applications are at your disposal.

mail.connector

This module includes web services. It provides you with the ability to depict all email content as well as all necessary folders in the end system, e.g. salesforce.com. With mail.connector the end system is also able to reproduce the full scope of processing emails. This entails the ability to edit and delete emails as well.

Furthermore emails can be created in mail.connector and forwarded into the Domino infrastructure. The transfer takes place ultimately in the Domino infrastructure in the name of the creator. All company guidelines are always abided by.

calendar.connector

This module synchronizes the calendar content of both systems. Appointments created in IBM Notes are displayed in the end system corresponding and vice versa.

task.connector

In IBM Notes created tasks are forwarded to the end system by this module. Assignments and changes get synchronized respectively.

domino.middleware using the example of salesforce.com

For automating any communication between salesforce.com and domino.connector a middleware is needed. In collaboration with our client we develop a solution for data collation that eliminates the creation of any duplicates. The middleware developed by TIMETOACT is enabled to be easily connected with both IBM Notes as well as salesforce.com.

One of the major benefits is that only one additional Domino server for the domino.connector is needed. Preferable it should be placed in a secure DMZ. The communication between servers takes place via secure https protocols, or else if required through IP tunnel. The middleware provides you with all necessary tools to govern user permissions and select chores (events, tasks, deletes) for different users and their synchronization interval.

Different processes are constantly running for reading, writing and deleting of data. Furthermore, a variety of inquiries take place to keep both systems synchronized at all times.

Installation in only 30 minutes

The TIMETOACT middleware solution is operational with just a few flicks of the hand:

  • Domino.middleware adaption to salesforce.com licensed web services (the generated JAR file has to be integrated in the web service client of domino.middleware)
  • Salesforce.com tasks and events spreadsheet extension of about four tabs
  • If required: adaption of salesforce.com masks

If a domino server is existent, installation and configuration of domino.connectors will last only about 30 minutes. With an https connection already in place, domino.middleware will be fully operational within about two hours. Accordingly, IBM Notes, salesforce.com and the complete domino server installation can be connected and work ready within just a single day.

Domino.connector access

The web service is used by a technical or authorized user (user credentials, trusted server). If a technical user accesses the web services, their user data is stored. This way all information is specifically relatable.

Protocolling and compliance

All activities happening in the IBM Notes database are protocolled. The same accounts for reports of infrastructure as well as occurring errors and aborts. All reports of the kind are stored in domino.connector or respectively in domino.middleware.

Modus operandi

Domino.connector handles information ad-hoc as well as in batch modus. Both options can be chosen variable and to your business configurations respectively.

Domino.middleware works in batch modus. Each interval can be chosen for each process individually.

Configuration

Configuration of domino.connector and respectively domino.middleware ensues in the application itself via different parameters. Existing IBM Notes Domino infrastructure usually doesn’t need adjusting.

Specification

Domino.connector works with all systems starting with IBM Lotus Notes / Domino v7.

As interface server for domino.connector or respectively domino.middleware we recommend usage of Domino, starting with version 8.5.2.

Additional limitations are unknown.

The scale depends on the actual amount of users accessing via the Internet at the same time. Multiple domino.connectors can be used simultaneously depending on the in place server equipment. As is usual with IBM Notes domino.middleware can be installed any number of times.
